Alternative Natural Hair Rinses

Alternative Natural Hair Rinses

Alternative Natural Hair Rinses

Air pollutants, heat, ultraviolet radiation, dry indoor air, cold winter air, permanents, hair dyes and strong shampoos all wreck havoc on the hair and scalp. Alternative Natural Hair Rinses can help, and the most effective are those that act directly on the scalp rather than the hair shaft, thus supporting the health of the scalp which provides the hair with protein and other nutrients through a network of blood vessels.

Alternative Natural Hair Rinses

There are basically two types of rinses (chemical and natural), the natural being the preferred. Alternative Natural hair rinses, which you can make yourself, act to stimulate circulation in the scalp and thereby strengthening the hair, giving it a fresh appearance, nourishing the hair follicle and promoting healthy growth.

Tip: To help prevent split ends, rub olive oil into the ends of your hair 2-3 times per week. For best results, leave the oil on overnight and wash it out in the morning.

Hair Rinse Recipes:

Sage Rinse

1 cup boiling water
1 tsp. dried sage

Pour the water over the sage; steep until it cools a bit. Strain.
Effect:
Sage helps reduce the buildup of oil on the scalp and promotes healthier hair. Use this herbal rinse after shampooing for 3 weeks.

Birch-Leaf Rinse

1 cup boiling water
1 tsp. dried birch leaves

Pour the water over the birch leaves; steep until it cools a bit. Strain. Effect: When used regularly, this hair rinse will help to maintain the health of the scalp and may even be a good choice for preventing hair loss. It also keeps the hair soft and gives a silky sheen. Contraindications: Do not use these alternative natural hair rinses on blond or grey hair, as it may darken the color.

Chamomile Rinse

1 cup boiling water
1 tsp. chamomile flowers

Pour the water over the chamomile flowers; steep until it cools a bit. Strain out the flowers. Effect: This rinse soothes and heals the scalp and gives hair a silky sheen. You can also use the rinse to lighten blond hair.

Linden Flower Rinse

1 cup boiling water
1 tsp. linden flowers

Pour the water over the linden flowers; steep until it cools a bit. Strain out the flowers.
Effect: This rinse is helpful for over-stressed, dried out hair. It is ideal, for example, if permanent or repeated dyeing has made your hair brittle.

For Healthy Blond Highlights

Juice of 1 lemon
1/4 cup water

Combine the juice of 1 lemon with 1/4 cup water in a glass jar; shake well and use as a rinse after shampooing. Rinse with cool water after 5 minutes. Lemon juice will also help treat an oily scalp.

Application:

Prepare alternative natural hair rinses the same way you make a herbal tea: Pour a cup of boiling water over a teaspoon of herbs. Steep for 10 minutes, then strain. Message the rinse into the scalp gently and evenly; leave it on the hair without rinsing. Dry your hair with a soft towel. Heat can damage your hair; so try to avoid using a blow-dryer and allow your hair to dry naturally.

Ingredient Benefits:

Rinse with beer to add shine and body: If you want to do something nice for your hair, rinse it once a month with flat beer. After applying the beer, you can rinse the hair with warm water or not, as you choose. The beer acts as a natural setting lotion, giving blow-dried hair increased vitality, resilience and hold. The B vitamins and natural sugar add body and shine. Don’t worry: The stale-beer smell will disappear very quickly.

Apply sesame oil to reduce sun damage: The rays of the sun are extremely damaging to your hair, bleaching and drying it until it becomes brittle. Indeed, hair damage caused by to much ultraviolet radiation is irreparable. However, sesame oil can provide excellent sun protection. Message a few tablespoons of the oil into your hair and scalp before going out into the sun for prolonged periods. Sesame oil includes natural SPF (sun protection factor) of about 2,5. For added protection you can blend the sesame oil with 10 drops of carrot-seed essential oil, which is high in antioxidants.

Apple-cider vinegar for silkiness: Adding a little bit of raw apple-cider vinegar to the deep-conditioning hair treatment provides an astringent effect; it works by tightening the cuticle, giving tresses shine and silkiness. In addition, it helps to ensure that the ingredients blend well. Raw apple-cider vinegar which has a cloudy appearance can be found in many grocery stores and is good for all hair types.

Brush the scalp to improve circulation: Give your hair 100 strokes with a natural bristle brush every day to stimulate circulation in the scalp and give the hair a silkier appearance. Regular brushing will also help to remove the pollutants and dust that settle on your hair every day and potentially cause damage.

Sage Leaf Organic (Egypt) The term Salvia is in fact the scientific name for sage leaf. If you think that sounds a little bit like “salvation” or “salvage,” you’re not far off. “Salvia” is the Latin word for “healing,” and current research suggests that organic sage may in fact be useful in the treatment of bacterial and fungal disease.

The Magic of Calendula Ointment

The Magic of Calendula Ointment

Nature’s Remedies  Calendula Ointment.

calendula ointment bannerThis natural skin remedy is prepared from the golden flowers of the calendula plant, which has been used for medicinal purposes since the sixteenth century. To create the calendula ointment, an oil-based infusion is produced from the flower petals and then mixed with a base. This essential oil has wound-healing and anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, it has carotenoids which can help to regenerate skin cells. As a result, calendula ointment is useful for treating skin wounds and inflammation, as well as frostbite. However, because of its oil content, it should not be used for burns. The therapeutic remedy is sold ready-made at Natural Health stores or can be prepared at home. To use, apply a thin layer to affected areas of the skin several times a day.

Homemade Calendula Ointment

Infuse about a half cup dried, powdered calendula flowers into 1 cup olive oil and soak for 14 days; strain well and refrigerate. (Be sure to buy Calendula and not the American marigold Tagetes.) If you would prefer a salve instead, add 1 ounce beeswax to half to three quarter cup oil and half a cup of calendula flowers.

Calendula Ointment

Therapeutic effect

Calendula Ointment has two principal effects on skin wounds.

  • First, it acts as a natural antibiotic to kill germs, thereby cleansing the wound and helping to prevent infection.
  • Second, it promotes blood cell growth in regenerating skin tissue, speeding the healing process and helping to minimize the formation of scars.

Components

Calendula ointment contains volatile constituents, yellow-orange carotenoids and other natural pigments, flavonoids, saponins, alcohols, enzymes and various organic acids. Depending on the manufacturer, store-bought products may contain additional substances.

Ready-made preparations

pt_elma16 calundula ointment

This therapeutic oil is very versatile, as it not only alleviates pain and itching, but also provides relief from burning sensations. At the same time, Elma 16 Cold Sore Oil reduces the healing period by about 50 percent. It is a novel, over-the-counter (non-prescription) cold sore remedy based on calendula stem cells that alleviates pain immediately.

Elma 16 Cold Sore Oil is a safe treatment that prevents and shields as well as alleviates cracked, chapped or wind-burned skin as well as lips. This therapeutic oil is loaded with various herbs, vitamins as well as many natural topicals. This oil contains vitamin E, jojoba oil, olive oil and other natural substances.

This oil is an exceptional and compact skin recovery remedy in a jar. Elma 16 Cold Sore Oil contains a new potent formula  that combines the most up-to-date science along with the best quality, naturally available, organic ingredients that ensure best possible results.

Treatment of chapped skin and cold sores (ABOVE)

Calendula ointment helps moisturize and heal chapped or cracked skin and lips. It may be a particularly effective remedy against cold sores. These painful sores, also known as fever blisters, appear on the lips and are caused by a type of herpes virus.

calendula ointment

Extra tip

To ensure a ready supply of fresh ointment simply refrigerate small amounts of the olive oil infusion – the oil in the ointment without the beeswax and cocoa butter – in covered containers, the oil will keep for more than a year.

Used to speed healing of cuts and scrapes, skin inflammations, frostbite, bruises, sprains, eczema and scars.

Methods of Administration

For varicose veins

Gently apply calendula ointment to affected areas twice a day. The ointment promote blood circulation and helps speed healing.

Warning: To avoid damaging fragile veins to not rub or massage the ointment into affected areas. Instead, gently spread a thin layer of ointment over the affected sections.

For bed sores

If you are confined to bed for a long time, sores (decubitus ulcers) often develop, especially in the area of the heels, elbows, collarbone and tail bone. To help them heal, gently rub the ointment into the bed sore several times a day. If necessary, cover the sorts with gauze or bandages.

For nail infections

The ointment’s anti-inflammatory and germ-killing actions are very useful for infections of the nail bed. Apply the ointment directly to the affected area several times a day.

Healing of Wounds

Calendula ointment may help with:

  1. Cuts or abrasions that are already scabbed over, but have a light rose-colored border, indicating possible infection.
  2. Skin wounds that are superficially inflamed.
  3. Wounds that are discharging pus.
  4. Painful areas of the skin or lips that are dry, cracked and highly sensitive.
  5. Athlete’s foot or other fungal skin infections.

How To Turn Your Tea Tree Oil Cologne Recipe Into a Love Potion

How To Turn Your Tea Tree Oil Cologne Recipe Into a Love Potion

Tea Tree Oil? Really?

Tea Tree Oil is widely known for its healing properties. I had never considered it as a cologne additive. I recently changed my mind.

couple-600Tea Tree Oil blends well with basil, bergamot, black pepper, chamomile german, clary sage, clove, cypress, eucalyptus, geranium, juniper, lavender, lemon, marjoram, nutmeg, oakmoss, oregano, peppermint, pine, ravensara, rosemary, thyme, ylang ylang which are frequently included in a manly cologne.

Every perfume consists of 3 scent levels, or “notes” which support each other and create the overall scent. Essential oils, classified as either top, middle or base notes, give each perfume its own special character. Here are a few of the basic terms:

Top note: This is the scent you notice first, but it doesn’t last long because it evaporates quickest. Top notes are a small portion of the final blend and include fresh, light citrus scents using such oils as bergamot, neroli, lemon, lime, rosemary, orange or mint.

Middle note: This links the base and top scents and determines the fragrance family. Middle notes include flowery essential oils, such as jasmine, rose germanium and ylang-ylang and tea tree oil.

Base note or fixative: This scent lasts the longest, adds fullness and carries the other scents. Derived from balsams, roots, resins and wood, bases include such oils as sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli and tend to be dark, heavy and sweet.

Aroma

Tea Tree Oil has a spicy, camphorous, warm, fresh fragrance that is slightly medicinal. It contains antimicrobial, antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic, and antifungal properties. It is known to be an immune system stimulant and is uplifting, purifying, and cleansing. Tea tree oil is a quintessential addition to use in a diffuser, during facials, in a compress, in lotion, during massage, cosmetic applications, personal care formulations, soaps, perfumery, incense, candles and in baths.

How to Pick the Perfect Perfume and Smell Great!

The right fragrance. Your body produces natural fragrances that can increase your physical attractiveness. But to accentuate it, you can also use colognes that complement your body’s fragrance and make you smell more sexually attractive.

What makes this recipe into a Love Potion?

This recipe on its own will not have women falling all over themselves but pairing it with one of these unscented pheromone products as a pleasant natural cover scent will.

Pheromones are a great way to build confidence, keep people’s attention in social situations, and attract sexual partners. These unscented pheromones for men allow you to combine all of the great benefits of pheromones with any fragrance you want!

Mix your favorite cologne with one or more of these unscented pheromone products such as Chikara Unscented for Men, Alpha-7 Unscented, and Liquid Trust and experience the power of pheromones without changing the way you smell.

One final note: if you are going to use essential oils as pairings for our pheromone blends, please keep safety in mind. You should never put undiluted essential oils right on your skin, as doing so can cause a bad reaction similar to an allergic reaction that will come back every time you have contact with that oil (or even the plant it comes from) again. Always mix them, in appropriate proportions, with a carrier oil before application. We want you to be safe and happy! Read up on the use of essential oils in perfumes before getting started.

Best Hair Loss Shampoo

Best Hair Loss Shampoo

In my opinion the Best Hair Loss Shampoo is one that you can make yourself with the recommended essential oils.

That being said, I can also show you an additional great product to achieve the results you are looking for. A full head of hair.

hairFirst, you’re on the right track by making the choice to make your own best hair loss shampoo. Commercial shampoos are loaded with chemicals which may have contributed to your hair loss in the first place.

Making your own homemade natural herbal shampoo specifically formulated for your hair type may be the answer you have been looking for.

Nature has provided us with many plants that possess incredible secrets. The essential oils recommended in the best hair loss shampoo recipes were extracted from these plants.

Bergamot essential oil for instance regulates the activity of the sebaceous glands on the scalp, preventing the overproduction of oil which can contribute to hair loss.

A soft, shiny, healthy head of hair is quite a blessing. Whether you have normal, fine hair or oily hair and dandruff, a well-groomed appearance can strengthen one’s self confidence and image. Today, many commercial shampoos have cleansers that are too harsh and have a drying effect on the scalp, making it produce too much oil for those suffering with an oily hair condition. Normal hair is easier to maintain but it too can benefit from a milder shampoo.

Different people suffer from various types problems related to the scalp and hair. These problems may include hair loss, problems related to scaling and itching and/ or infections.

Both men as well as women are troubled by hair loss (alopecia). The problem is very widespread. It is normal to loose hair on a daily basis and this is generally replaced by new hair growth. When this does not occur, it may result in receding hairline or baldness. Many people who suffer from rapid hair loss, more than what is normal, may actually have inherited the predisposition to the condition known as “common baldness”.

Several different factors may be responsible for hair loss. Such cases may include aging, ecological effects, excessive stress, smoking excessively, hormonal imbalance, deficiency of nutrient, scalp infections, genetic issues, using the wrong or synthetic hair care products. In addition, use of specific medicines as well as health conditions like autoimmune diseases, thyroid problems, anemia due to deficiency of iron, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and various chronic ailments may also be responsible for hair loss.

Everyone has roughly 100,000 hair strands on their scalp. Normally, one loses anything between 50 to 100 strands of hair daily. In the case of a healthy individual, this loss is compensated with the growth of new hair strands every day. However, when an individual starts losing more hair than what is considered to be normal, it is necessary for them to initiate some action to ensure that the hair loss doesn’t progress to the stage of bald spots or baldness. Fortunately by by making your own Best Hair Loss Shampoo several ingredients in the recipes are available readily and these may be employed for treating hair loss at home.

A daily ritual of scalp massages spreads your skin’s natural oils to the hair shafts. Use your fingertips to massage your scalp for 3 min. each day before shampooing will help to augment blood circulation to the hair follicles. At the same time, it will condition the scalp and also make the hair roots stronger. In addition, massaging will encourage relaxation and lessen stressful feelings.

When your rub and knead the skin of the scalp, the action makes it warm, conditioning the skin. This, in turn, results in increased blood flow to the scalp’s skin. When the blood circulation is boosted, it makes sure that the cells lying inside the hair follicles receive additional nutrients. When all these happen concurrently, they help to make optimal hair growth possible.

Massaging and kneading the scalp offers other benefits and that is the release of endorphins, which are responsible for lowering the levels of stress. At the same time, endorphins ensure happiness and relaxation. Precisely speaking, any type of massage helps to lower the elevated levels of stress, provided it is done in the proper manner.

But first let’s get you started on making your own shampoo.

As I mentioned earlier, Nature has provided us with plants that possess incredible secrets. Here are mentioned a few more

Ingredients

Elma 11 Hair and Scalp Revitalizer is 100% natural, and does not contain steroids, parabens, and artificial preservatives.

Directions

Rub into the scalp and hair 15-30 minutes before washing 1-2 times a week. In the case of dandruff, scalp irritations, or to stop hair loss, leave the oil in for a few more hours before washing. Apply oil 1-2 times a week.

Neutralizing Rinse

Keeping Hair Healthy with a Neutralizing Rinse

  • All shampoos are a little alkaline; in areas with hard water, they may leave a light film on your hair or your scalp. If you live in a region where the water is a problem, use an acidic rinse after every shampoo to neutralize the hair’s pH. Mix 1 tsp. of vinegar or freshly squeezed lemon juice with 2 cups of warm water and use this mixture as a final rinse.
  • After shampooing, rinse with cool water to shrink the pores on your scalp and prevent the overproduction of oil.
  • Rinse with apple-cider vinegar to encourage your hair to regenerate the natural acidic coating that normally protects it. When the acidic coating is intact, it prevents damage to the hair and scalp to counteract flaking. Vinegar also naturally neutralizes any alkaline residue that remains behind.
  • If you swim often, especially in chlorinated pools, wear a bathing cap. To keep your hair moisturized, apply conditioner before you put your cap on. Following your swim, rinse your hair to remove any chlorine or salt.

Take Care!

The essential oils in these Best Hair Loss Shampoo recipes may irritate the mucous membranes if they come in contact with your eyes, so you should always keep your eyes closed when you’re washing your hair. If some shampoo does get into your eyes, rinse it out immediately with plenty of water to prevent irritation. Pregnant women and epileptics should avoid using bay-laurel, lemon and rosemary essential oils, since they can trigger contractions or seizures; lemon oil can also cause photosensitivity.

Best Hair Loss Shampoo Ingredient Benefits:

Distilled water for clean rinsing: Water that has been distilled is extremely pure; it is free of sodium and trace amounts of solid matter, unlike other kinds of water. It is a good ingredient for natural shampoos, as it doesn’t contain minerals that can build up on your hair.

Gentle herbal shampoo as a base: A good base for natural shampoo is a mild herbal shampoo, which can be found in many health-food stores. Buy a soap-based shampoo made with coconut, soy, olive or palm-kernel oil. Another good choice is a herbal baby shampoo. Avoid shampoos that include olefin sulfate, lauramide DEA, cocamide DEA, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, sodium C14-16 or cocamidopropyl betaine, as they tend to be too harsh.

Essential oils for scent and shine: Lemon essential oil can give your hair a healthy shine. Peru-balsam oil conditions fine hair and makes it easier to comb. Rosemary oil is also good for natural shampoos, since it contains components that help invigorate and strengthen both your scalp and your hair.

Alternatives for healthy hair: If you don’t want to make a natural shampoo but want something mild, try diluting your normal shampoo by half with distilled water. You can also add essential oils for fragrance; lavender and rosemary oils are good choices.

A pH-Balanced shampoo: Containing no additives or perfumes, a pH-balanced shampoo may be commercially available in ready-to-use form. It is well suited for use in personalizing individual, gentle shampoos and provides an inexpensive alternative to store-bought brands. For a distinctive aroma, add your favorite essential oil. In addition to pleasing aroma, the nourishing, restorative components of the added essential oils will enrich your scalp each time you shampoo.

Many of you have a busy and hectic lifestyle and even though making your own homemade shampoo is the best alternative to using commercially purchased shampoos and conditioners there isn’t always the time available. There are however some excellent shampoos available that are also vegan, gluten-free, sulfate-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, and cruelty-free. Find them at your local health food store.

Whether you decide to delve right in and make the above shampoo recipes yourself or not is up to you. I recommend you try it. One thing you can’t skip on though is the Elma hair & scalp revitalizer.

Woodsy Fruitwood Perfume

Woodsy Fruitwood Perfume

Woodsy Fruitwood Perfume is a round, fully citrusy perfume with a distinct woodsy scent. This fragrance is also well suited for use as an appealing cologne for men.

woodsy fruitwood perfume banner

Making your own Woodsy Fruitwood Perfume or a cologne for men is a better option than buying perfumes. This homemade perfume encompasses the two fragrances that men and women love.

Woodsy Fruitwood Perfume is handcrafted with organic botanical ingredients. You will love these nourishing plant oils and expertly blended pure essential oils. They have a fragrance that lasts for hours.

This exquisite collection of exotic, alluring, and deeply penetrating aroma oils is made with 100% natural ingredients including pure essential oils.

Citrus fragrances are fresh, fruity and bursting with crisp and zesty essences like Lemons and Neroli.  Citrus scents are infused with the tangy essence of citrus fruits and these perfumes are energetic and best enjoyed as a daytime delight and during spring summer or fall months of the year.

Woodsy fragrances are some of the most popular type of fragrances for men and the scent they give off are earthy, warm and dry smelling. Woodsy Fruitwood Perfume or Colognes for men are dominated by woody scents, characteristically by cypress and cedarwood.

Woodsy fragrances for men are best used during the fall or winter months or late evening during the spring.

Top notes are a small portion of the final blend and include fresh, light citrus scents using such oils as neroli, grapefruit, lemongrass and lemon.

Middle note: This links the base and top scents and determines the fragrance family. Middle notes include benzoin essential oils in this recipe.

Base note or fixative: This scent lasts the longest, adds fullness and carries the other scents. Derived from balsams, roots, resins and wood, bases include such oils as cedarwood and cypress and verbina and tend to be dark, heavy and sweet.

Make Your Own Perfume

Woodsy Fruitwood Perfume

5 tsp. 80-proof vodka
1/2 tsp distilled water
15 drops lemon oil
10 drops grapefruit oil
10 drops lemongrass oil
2 drops benzoin oil
3 drops cedarwood oil
5 drops neroli oil
5 drops cypress oil
10 drops verbena oil (use with caution if at all)

Directions for this recipe:

Place all of the ingredients in a dark glass bottle and shake well. Store the perfume in a cool, dark place for 2-3 weeks to allow it to develop. Turn the bottle upside down occasionally as the woodsy fruitwood perfume steeps.

Maintaining Pure Scent

Spray bottles, which will not come into contact with the skin, are the best choice for applying perfume. Direct skin contact may cause dead skin cells to slough off and be deposited in the bottle, which can can have effect on the perfume’s scent over the long term.

Caution!

Do not use perfume before going out in the sun. The essential oils, when exposed to UV light, may result in brown skin discoloration (pigment spots) that is difficult or impossible to remove.

Ingredient for this Woodsy Fruitwood Perfume Recipe and their Benefits:

Vodka as a carrier oil: High quality 80- or 100-proof vodka is virtually odorless, making it a good choice for an essential-oil carrier in natural perfume. Don’t substitute other types of alcohol, such as rubbing alcohol, which has a powerful odor and quickly evaporates as well.

For freshness: Oils from the skins of a variety of citrus fruits provide the perfumes fruity, fresh note. Lemon, grapefruit are used as light scent oils. They give a refreshing top note and also provide the perfume with its delicate, invigorating scent.

For warmth and spice: The addition of lemongrass, cypress, neroli and verbena oils gives the perfume a mild spicy, slightly woodsy scent.

For fullness and harmony: Benzoin and cedarwood oils give the perfume a lasting fullness. They bind the mixture of essential oils together and harmonize well with the fresh citrus oils.
Citrus oil for refreshment: Gently uplifting and soothing citrus oils, such as neroli, provide a fruity, floral freshness to a perfume’s fragrance.

Anti-Wrinkle Cream Regenerates Skin

Anti-Wrinkle Cream Regenerates Skin

Mind Blowing Anti-Wrinkle Cream

Anti-Wrinkle cream to reduce the signs of aging, lines and wrinkles, loss of radiance and dehydration.

Anything that robs the skin of moisture can lead to wrinkles.

Elma Skin Revitalizer - anti-wrinkle cream

Elma Skin Revitalizer Regenerates skin and gives a more youthful appearance. Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and blemishes. Works well under make-up to give a smooth finish. 3 times more effective than regular creams. Elma has no artificial preservatives. No paraben. No citric acid. No water. No solvents. No glycol. 100% money back guarantee

By nurturing your face with pure botanical products, you will enjoy the effective potency of plants. Our facial care products are crafted with natural, botanical, and renewable ingredients.

As you mature, youthfully taut skin begins to show unwelcome signs of wear and tear. As you age the production of collagen and elastin slows resulting in fat cells that are less plump. As a result the effects of gravity are made visible. As these aging effects appear, women and some men turn to commercial moisturizers, wrinkle treatments and anti-aging creams. These may only temporarily plump up the skin and may contain ingredients that aren’t necessarily of benefit to the skin.

That is not the story behind the Elma line of products.

What makes their products different from the others?

  • they really work
  • they are made with passion and heart because they put quality over quantity
  • they are “home made products” manufactured by a family owned company – themselves
  • they are purely natural and don’t cause any side effects
  • they do not contain steroids, artificial preservatives, parabens, antibiotics, other harmful chemicals and even water

I have just learned about this myself and to be honest with you it captured my interest right away. All Elma skin care products are manufactured in an eco-friendly manner using only the top quality ingredients and are based on the calendula stem cells. These stem cells are carefully extracted from the plant in a 100% natural process and they are the driving force behind their powerful products. They have the innate ability to bond to human tissues and to increase the body’s ability to repair itself. Follow the links and find out for yourself. I know you will be fascinated and want to try the products for yourself.

As an alternate solution: For the 2nd best anti-wrinkle cream that works naturally to firm, nourish and protect your skin, make your own anti-wrinkle cream.

Anti-Wrinkle Cream Recipe:

2 oz. apricot-kernel oil
2 oz. avocado oil
1 tsp. lanolin
2 tsp. melted, unrefined beeswax
4 oz. rose hydrosol
1/2 tsp. pure honey
1/2 tsp. borax
30 drops neroli essential oil

Making this Recipe

  1. Heat apricot and avocado oils with the lanolin and the beeswax in a double boiler until warm and melted. Do not allow it to simmer. Remove from heat.
  2. In a separate pan, heat the rose hydrosol, honey and borax until the borax is dissolved. Stir it well, and remove from heat.
  3. When both mixtures have cooled to the same temperature, blend the mixture from step 2 in a clean blender running at medium speed. Slowly drizzle in the oil mixture until it’s as thick as a frosting. This should happen quickly. Add neroli essential oil and blend for 5 sec. more.
  4. Scrape the cream out with a rubber spatula and place in sterilized, 1-cup glass containers. Note: Glass containers are excellent for use with natural skin-care creams BECAUSE THEY CAN BE STERILIZED. Boil the jars in water for 5-10 min. Germs, such as bacteria, are killed at high temperatures. This removes oily residue from the jar, as well. Don’t forget to clean the tops, too. Simply wipe them with isopropyl alcohol.
  5. Store the cream in the refrigerator for maximum freshness.

Hygiene Tips

Emulsions that are based on watery ingredients, such as rose hydrosol, do not last as long as creams made purely of fat, such as oils or waxes. Therefore, don’t use the anti-wrinkle cream for more than 3 months, or it will separate, causing mold and bacteria to grow and multiply rapidly. Wash your hands well before scooping cream out of the jar; or, if you prefer, you can use a clean spatula or a teaspoon to prevent bacterial contamination.

Application:

Remove a peanut-sized dab of cream from the jar with a spatula or a teaspoon. After cleansing, stroke it over your face, around your eyes and over your neck and upper chest. To tone and stimulate your skin, massage the anti-wrinkle cream in gentle upward circles; or, to alleviate puffiness, massage in circular downward strokes. After 10 minutes, remove excess cream.

Ingredient Benefits:

Oils for delicate skin: Apricot-kernel oil contains vitamin A and has a light consistency, allowing it to penetrate deep into the skin. Hazelnut oil has a high vitamin-E content and is especially nurturing because of its unsaturated fatty-acid content.

Avocado oil to fight wrinkles: Avocado oil is rich in vitamin A, B, D and E and lecithin, all beneficial for moisturizing, preventing the formation of liver spots and protecting the skin from sun damage. Eating avocados or other foods rich in these vitamins will also work to help protect the skin.

Lanolin for a creamy consistency: Lanolin added to antiwrinkle cream gives it a fine consistency. It’s obtained from cleaned sheep’s wool and is a natural moisturizing emollient and emulsifier.

Rose hydrosol for silkiness: Rose hydrosol invigorates and softens the skin and regulates pH moisture balance.

Beeswax and honey to soothe and protect: Beeswax is obtained by melting and cleaning empty honeycombs. It helps protect the skin naturally against bacteria because it contains antibacterial propolis. Honey soothes skin and firms tissue by plumping cells up with water.

Hydrosol – The condensed water that is left behind when plants are steam distilled to make essential oil. A little like waters made from roses and lavenders and other herbs, except more pure and a little more concentrated. You can make your own waters, just by steeping an herb in warm water and straining. Or, you can purchase hydrosols.

At the core of the apricot pit is the kernel, which is pressed to yield the apricot kernel oil. It is used as a culinary flavoring, but not recommended for high heat uses. It has a deliciously complex flavor, similar to that of almond oil, with a mixture of sweet and bitter.

Apricot Kernel Oil is also well suited for skin care products such as anti-wrinkle cream because it is a mild, moisturizing oil, and is readily absorbed into the skin without leaving a residue behind.

avocado-unrefined for anti-wrinkle creamAvocado Oil (unrefined) Our Avocado Oil (Persea americana) is expeller pressed from the soft green flesh around the pit of the avocado.

Because avocados have a high content of healthy fats, the oil also contains all the healthy monounsaturated and saturated fats, including many antioxidants.

lanolin-oil-refined for anti-wrinkle creamLanolin Oil (Refined) Our 100% pure and natural Lanolin Anhydrous Oil is a purified wax derived from the wool of sheep. It is then cleaned, decolorized, and deodorized. Just like in humans, a sheep’s skin has pores that produce oils to hydrate the surface of the body.

These oils, called lanolin, have a deep moisturizing effect on skin and hair. Its lipid-rich emollient locks existing moisture into the skin and absorbs additional moisture from the air around it.

Lanolin is easily absorbed into the skin, which allows it to help repair barrier function and increase skin moisture, working wonderfully in lotions, anti-wrinkle cream, body scrubs, lip balms, and is topically soothing for breast-feeding moms.

beeswax-beads-organic for anti-wrinkle creamBeeswax Beads Organic, Yellow (Filtered)(China) Harvested from the honeycombs, our beeswax is 100% natural, does not contain petroleum derived ingredients, and is not processed with chemicals.

It is often used in cosmetic and skincare products as a thickening agent, emulsifier, and humectant.

It has a wide range of uses including soaps, salves, balms, skin creams, candles, lubricants, and polishes.

beeswax for anti-wrinkle creamUnrefined beeswax Natural Planet’s Beeswax is 100% natural beeswax pellets. A bee consumes an estimated 6-10 lbs (3-4.5 kg) of honey for each pound of the wax it secretes.

After honey removal, the comb is melted to produce the beeswax. Our beeswax is hand packaged in 1 pound, sealed bags and ready for you to use.

Beeswax has a high melting point range, of 62 to 64 ºC (144 to 147 ºF). If beeswax is heated above 85 ºC (185 ºF) discoloration occurs.

Use this wax in anti-wrinkle cream & lotions for extra body, in balms and body butters for stiffness and rigidity and in soaps and candles for hardness. Enjoy!

rose-flower-hydrosol for anti-wrinkle creamRose Flower Hydrosol A hydrosol is the aromatic water remaining after producing an essential oil via steam distillation. Steam distillation results in two complimentary products – the essential oil and the hydrosol.

When the plant material is brewed with water in the cooker, steam fills the pot and, as it rises, causes the plant’s glands to release its oils and essence into the steam. The aromatic water that was steamed with the original plant material is referred to as a “hydrosol”, which is like a much less concentrated essential oil.

During this distillation process, the plant matter actually imparts the hydrosol with the water-soluble aromatic and therapeutic properties of the plant. They contain the essence of the plant in every drop, just like essential oils, but in a milder form.

They are suitable for all manner of applications, where essential oils could be too strong. Hydrosols represent a more subtle and delicate form of the aromatic substance, and can be an ideal complement to aromatherapy.

Our pure and natural Rose Hydrosol (Rosa damascena) is suitable for food use and packaged in an alluring 4 oz blue cobalt bottle with accompanying mist sprayer.

Hair Conditioner Recipes with Plant Stem Cells

A Hair Conditioner with Plant Stem Cells repairs hair damage.

hair-conditioner with plant stem cells

If you want your hair to be healthy, shiny and strong, using a hair conditioner with Plant Stem Cells on a regular basis is essential.

Conditioners consist of three major components: emollients, which soften and smooth your hair; moisturizers to increase the water content of your hair; and proteins that strengthen each hair shaft. Making your own homemade hair conditioner allows you to add essential oils which customizes the conditioners for a range of hair types and needs. Its the best way to insure that you have a natural hair conditioner.

Tip: In order to protect your hair from the corrosive effects of sunlight, chlorinated water, hair dryers, color treatments and permanents, apply a hair conditioning treatment with Plant Stem Cells regularly.

1tbsp. apple-cider vinegar
5 drops geranium essential oil
1/8 tsp. jojoba oil

Here is an alternative to the above recipe for Hair Setting Conditioning Lotion if you are of Black Heritage
I travel to Jamaica a lot and all my friends there are Jamaican with problem hair. All of them straighten their hair which leaves it dull looking and dried out. This is what I suggest to them.

3 oils that they should have in their arsenal to make their black hair setting lotion. Coconut Oil. Castor Oil and Grapeseed Oil.

  • Coconut oil: penetrates and moisturizes the hair shaft 100% like water. But unlike water will not frizz up the hair.
  • Castor Oil: which is a heavier oil seals in moisture and gives the appearance of thicker hair.
  • Grapeseed Oil: which is a very light weight oil is extremely rich in ceramides. It is one of the top oils with ceramide content of 73%

Role of ceramides:

Hold the scales of the hair cuticle together, which in healthy hair results in smooth and lustrous hair. In damaged hair, the ceramides are missing and results in dull, coarse and dry hair.

Directions for Recipes:

  • Dissolve the honey in the warm water.
  • Add the proper ingredients for your type of hair and mix thoroughly.
  • If you are of Black Heritage experiment on your hair trying the different oils. Some might work for you better than others.

Note: Hair setting lotion Recipes make 4 applications. Setting lotions will stay fresh for for up to 2 weeks in the fridge. If you are allergic to honey, maple syrup can be used as a substitute.

Color-Enhancing Rinse

Use black hair setting lotions after you color your hair. Rinses with color-enhancing herbs can intensify your natural hair color. For blonde hair, use Roman-chamomile flowers. Calendula petals are best for red and auburn hair. Try stinging nettle, sage, walnut shells or rosemary for brown or black hair. To make the rinse, boil 3 cups of distilled water or spring-water. Remove it from the heat. Add 3 tbsp. of dried herb, stir, cover and steep 30 min. Strain and cool. Shampoo, squeeze out excess water and saturate your hair with 1 cup of the rinse. Squeeze out the excess, then apply a black hair setting lotion. The rinse may stain light towels, so always use dark ones. You can store rinses in the refrigerator for 2 weeks.

Successful Blow-Drying

Start with freshly washed hair, and wait until it becomes damp-dry before applying setting lotion. This will prevent flyaway hair, as well as make it easy to shape. Begin to blow-dry while bending your head forward, starting from the roots. This technique will plump up the underlying hair and help give the hair at the top more hold, as well as create more body and volume.

Application:

Wash your hair and let partially air-dry-or blow-dry it until just slightly damp. Apply setting lotion sparingly yet evenly, using a spray bottle. Comb the lotion carefully through your hair, and then style as usual with the dryer.

Tip: If you prefer to apply a black hair setting lotion with your hands instead of a spray bottle, especially if you are trying out the castor oil because it is quite thick. Use the following amounts for each application: For short hair, use 1 tbsp.; for medium-length hair, use 2 tbsp.; and for long hair use 3-4 tbsp.

Ingredient Benefits:

Honey for natural hold and conditioning: The components in honey will condition and nourish your hair and scalp. Honey provides hair with natural hold, shine and volume. It also keeps your scalp from drying out, which helps prevent the formation of dry flakes.
Lemon juice for beautiful shine: Fresh-squeezed lemon juice gives your hair a lovely shine. It also lightens blonde, medium-blonde hair. If your hair tends to be dry, however, do not use lemon juice.
Rosemary for fine hair: Rosemary essential oil improves hair structure and supports healthy scalp function. The oil gently conditions fine and brittle hair.
Vinegar for hair repair: Apple-cider vinegar smooths the hair cuticle and protects against structural damage. This helps chemically treated hair, as chemical processing roughens and damages the cuticle.
Geranium for aroma: Geranium oil is great for setting lotions. It has a soothing aroma as well as as a cleansing, antiseptic effect.

Citrus Grove Perfume

Citrus Grove Perfume

The aromatic materials in this Homemade Citrus Grove Perfume are entirely natural.

citrus-grove-perfumeThe sense of smell is linked to the brain’s limbic system – which affects sexual behavior, emotion and even memory – and that scents can trigger different responses in different people. Creating your own Citrus Grove Perfume is easy. Find out which fragrance family, or category of aroma, most of your favorite scents belong to by testing different oils. Floral fragrance tends to be popular among women, but Oriental, fruity, spicy, green and citrus are other aromatic options. Fresh scent often appeal to energetic, youthful temperament. A woodsy or citrusy aroma also retains its scent for hours without becoming too powerful, and make them suitable for men to use as a cologne. Fresh, citrus-based perfumes are the lightest in aroma and they linger for the least amount of time. Create your own homemade perfume by selecting from a wide array of essential oils – delicate floral scents or spicy resins or a host of fruity, fresh citrus oil.

Components of Perfume

Every perfume consists of 3 scent levels, or “notes” which support each other and create the overall scent. Essential oils, classified as either top, middle or base notes, give each perfume its own special character. Here are a few of the basic terms:

Top note: This is the scent you notice first, but it doesn’t last long because it evaporates quickest. Top notes are a small portion of the final blend and include fresh, light citrus scents using such oils as bergamot, neroli, lemon, lime, rosemary, orange or mint.

Middle note: This links the base and top scents and determines the fragrance family. Middle notes include flowery essential oils, such as jasmine, rose germanium and ylang-ylang.

Base note or fixative: This scent lasts the longest, adds fullness and carries the other scents. Derived from balsams, roots, resins and wood, bases include such oils as sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli and tend to be dark, heavy and sweet.

Here is my suggestion for a perfume I really like.

Citrus Grove Perfume

This is a fully fruity perfume that has a very light, crusty scent.

5 tsp. 80-proof vodka
1/2 tsp distilled water
15 drops lemon oil
10 drops bergamot oil
10 drops bitter-orange oil
5 drops grapefruit oil
5 drops lemongrass oil
4 drops benzoin oil
2 drops cedarwood oil

Directions:

Place all of the ingredients in a dark glass bottle and shake well. Store the perfume in a cool, dark place for 2-3 weeks to allow it to develop. Turn the bottle upside down occasionally as the perfume steeps.

Caution: Bergamot essential oil should not be used by pregnant women or epileptics.

Maintaining Pure Scent:

Spray bottles, which will not come into contact with the skin, are the best choice for applying perfume. Direct skin contact may cause dead skin cells to slough off and be deposited in the bottle, which can can have effect on the perfume’s scent over the long term.

Application:

The skin must be clean and dry when using perfume, so the scent doesn’t mix with other odors. Such areas as the neck, sternum, elbow and inside of the knee or wrist are the best places to apply perfume; the increased body temperature at these pulse points improves a scent’s development and longevity.

Ingredient for this Recipe and their Benefits:

vodka for citrus grove perfumeVodka as a carrier oil: High quality 80 or 100 proof vodka is virtually odorless, making it a good choice for an essential-oil carrier in natural citrus grove perfume. Excessive Armpit Sweating Deodorant

Excessive Armpit Sweating Deodorant

Excessive armpit sweating (hyperhidrosis) is a common problem, especially of the palms, armpits and soles.

Excessive Armpit Sweating effects roughly 1% of the world population. It can be distressing and can have a serious impact on their life. In some cases, affected people avoid social contact with others because of embarrassment about the problem.

What is excessive armpit sweating?

excessive-armpit-sweating-deodorantNormal sweating helps to keep the body temperature steady in hot weather, during a high temperature (fever), or when exercising.

Every healthy human produces approximately 1-2 pints of sweat a day, which is an odorless liquid. Chemically based commercial products have been known to contain products that block the sweat glands and inhibit their natural temperature regulation. The decomposition of bacteria on the skin form substances with odor. Our homemade herbal deodorant recipes, do not contain products that block the sweat glands however they contains products that prevent odor from forming.

Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) means that you sweat much more than normal. Even when you are not hot, anxious, or exercising, you make a lot of sweat.

Excessive armpit sweating results from excessive sympathetic stimulation of the eccrine sweat glands. Some herbs, such as Sage (Salvia officinalis), have been found to be very useful in the treatment of excessive armpit sweating.

You have probably lived with this condition for some time and have done a lot of research online yourself so I am not going to delve into the medical side of the problem here. If you need more in depth information for Excessive Armpit Sweating you can find it HERE.
